What is digital game design?

Digital game design is a part of developing and designing video games. Digital game designers work along with a team to accomplish the task of creating a new video game. 

Digital game designers can have duties like designing characters, puzzles, levels, animation and art. Writing code applying various programming languages, project management tasks, testing early versions of video games can be additional duties assigned to them.

What you learn in digital game design?

You will study topics that cover digital game design and development from concept to publishing. You will learn drawing, sketching characters, generating digital game design ideas with plotlines and game play, storytelling and illustration, game design and development using latest programming software and animation.

History and theory of games, digital media, digital arts, , 2D and 3D Graphics, user interface design, simulation and modeling, best practices/developments in game design, casual games, online games, educational games, mobile games, multi player games, serious and strategy games are some areas that will be covered. You will also get to do team based assignments and projects.

What digital game design courses can you do?

You can opt for B.Des, B.Sc, BA, Diploma, certificate courses in Digital Game Design. At post graduate level, choices are M.Des, M.Sc and MA. Some colleges offer BFA and MFA in digital game design as well. 

Also note that there is option of doing BCA (Bachelor in Computer Applications) and MCA in Game Development too where the focus is mainly on computing part of games.

What are some digital game design jobs?

Creative director, producer, character designer, 3D modeler, animator, lead designer, level designer or builder, game developer and concept artist are some digital game design jobs.
