What is leather design?
Leather design involves leather product design and development. It covers leather garment design, leather design objects and any other possible leather design ideas. Specific leather design tools and leather design techniques are used to create such products.
What you learn in leather design course?
As a leather design student, you will learn how to design leather products. For instance, you will learn to design a leather jacket, design a leather bag and other fashion goods, personal lifestyle accessories and footwear made of leather.
After a common foundation study of design, you will go on to understand leather materials product realization concepts.
Fashion illustration, leather design patterns and their construction, leather processing, surface techniques, computer applications, field studies, retailing and design projects in small goods and garments are some topics of the curriculum. Technical drawings, merchandising, supply chain and exposure to leather industry also come under leather design course.
What leather design course can you do?
You can do B.Des (Bachelor of Design), Certificate courses, Diploma, BA (Hons) in Leather Design. At postgraduate level, you can opt for PG Diploma. Leather Design is part of curriculum in some M.Des courses as well.
You can also pursue B.Tech. and M.Tech. in Leather Technology where there will be more emphasis on technicalities of leather.

Leather design scope is enormous. You can choose from a wide range of careers in leather design. You can work as designer, merchandiser, range developer, production manager.
Target industries like export and domestic manufacturing, retail, buying and sourcing are also open for you. You can also work as an entrepreneur especially with a business centered towards export/domestic markets.
